When it comes to sex Orthodox Judaism has a lot of stringent rules however one rabbi is taking a stand and trying to change opinions and misconceptions and encourage the use of sex aids and toys for couples but with a twist. That twist? Ensuring that all products are verified and approved Kosher, which isn’t particularly hard considering most sex toys already are but the deal breaker is often the lude packaging of scantily clad men or women that deems the products against the religious rules.
If the idea comes by surprise, that is because the subject of sex is still a “taboo subject” among the Orthodox community, Rabbi Natan Alexander told AFP.
Though it doesn’t have to be that way, according to the 34-year-old, who says Judaism “gives an important place to sexual pleasure.”
For those who believe sex toys have no place in the Orthodox Jewish lifestyle, Rabbi Alexander says they’re perfectly acceptable.
“Jewish law permits the use of these objects that can best help fulfill the commandment to give pleasure to one’s wife,” he said.
Alexander is not the first Jewish leader to publicly address the issues surrounding sex and eroticism within the faith but he is one of the most recent.
American Orthodox Hew Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s 1999 book Kosher Sex had groundbreaking success, and his 2009 The Kosher Sutra was also a highly regarded and a bestseller.
The issue of sex in an untraditional and none reproductive sense is in fact still taboo within many religions and yet it is one oft the most natural ways people can express their love for one another, which is surely the meaning of life?
