Madame Roxys Erotic Emporium is the brainchild of artist Lucy Sparrow from Bath, England and a twist of erotic sub culture and the art of knitting, yes you heard right, Lucy’s medium of choice is fiber and the results are simply phenomenal. Her ability to depict and setup a scenario using items she has spent a long time sewing is ingenious and refreshing.
It’s not exactly news that London’s Soho is going through somewhat of a change in that the trendy bars and rising prices are pushing out the traditions of the local sex shops, strip clubs and the things Soho has been renowned for over the past several decades. With the changes in pornography law this ear showing the prudish nature of the elite decision makers of the country Lucy is standing up and demonstrating in the way she knows best, artistically that is.
In October 2015 she took over a shop in Soho from the 7th-17th allowing the public to visit her Madame Roxys Erotic Emporium sex shop free of charge to take a look at over 5000 sex products including sex toys, porno mags, condoms, lubricants and a collection of high end bondage fear.
The process of creating the items on show took 6 months and is almost a museum like look into the traditional London sex shop, without the actual guilt of actually visiting a sex shop (for those with weak stomachs).
Lucy is known for another installation in 2014 which was a similar process but an entirely different world, in that is was creating the classic corner shop we all knew and loved growing up which are also and have been for some time in decline as major supermarkets monopolize the country even further than was ever imaginable.
