A fantastic video produced by Engadget and presented by Executive Editor Christopher Trout that shows how CES was originally incubated and springboarded, thanks to the assistance of the adult entertainment world onto to shun it and turn it’s back in the 90s. Until recently that is! Why? because the world of SexTech is not just disrupting its own industry but also causing a storm in the psyche of mankind.
Christopher rightly points out the awkward relationship between the world of tech and the world of sex. While both are intrinsically linked and have always benefited from one another’s success we still don’t see any major tech brands getting directly involved in the sex business, whether that be pornography or sex toys way before the the phrase Sex Tech was coined.
In the sex toy business online we battle with keeping the likes of Google & Facebook happy by sticking the strict no-nipple policy in any images and by not promoting sexual “pleasure” but “safety” on platforms like Facebook that are more prude than your grandmother’s grandmother when it comes to advertising sexual pleasure products.
The video goes on to show how CES’s success and early growth was largely down to the adult magazines & their producers, pornstars and others involved in the adult entertainment industry, though they weren’t exactly treated like one of the family.
With CES being held in Sin City Las Vegas it is no surprise that the two were so closely paired, and since the Adult Entertainment Expo took all of the major stars and players to their conference, leaving a void at CES the patrons would split themselves between the two as they were both held at the same time and both in Vegas. Until they decided there wasn’t room for two conferences in town and CES moved their dates to avoid clashing with the AEE. This left AEE desolate for the next few years as they had suddenly lost their cross sale customers from CES, nobody was going to come back two weeks later the famous make pornstar Ron Jeremy goes on to explain.
For many years after CES remained a sexless show with not even a hint of the adult entertainment industry as it tried to mature and move into a new style and attract new audiences. Now sex and tech have been become even more greatly aligned than ever with the development of Virtual Reality we now have VR Sex and Virtual Reality Porn. We also have smart gadgets and technology being incorporated more into sex toys that are intelligent and can connect to your phone or improve as they learn more about your orgasms. The next gen is bound to be smart wifi connect realistic vaginas.
To put it simply we are on the cusp of something great in the world of Sex-Tech. 2017 sees porn at CES for the first time in a very long time and is paving the way for the next stage in virtual relationships and sexual interaction aided by technology. Scary? Exciting? All of the above!
